Possible excursions for accompanying persons

Bern is an excellent starting point for many beautiful one-day excursions, especially by good weather. Below here we list a few examples. Many more are listed in specialized sites like SBB (www.sbb.ch) or Bern Tourism (www.berninfo.com).

  1. Aare ship trip Solothurn – Biel/Bienne
    Bern – Solothurn – ship trip Aare – Biel/Bienne – Bern

The ship tour along the river Aare from Solothurn to Biel is full of highlights. This part of the river is one of the loveliest in Switzerland. The important Häftli nature conservation area at the Old Aare, the stork colony in Altreu and the little country town Büren an der Aare, with its impressive wooden bridge, make this trip a fantastic excursion.

Cost per person: 32.80 SFr. (with Half-Fare Card); 65.40 SFr.

  2. Ship ahoi – on the three JURA lakes
Bern – Biel/Bienne – Neuchâtel (by ship) – Murten (by ship) – Bern

Experience unforgettable hours on the three JURA lakes surrounded of landscapes typified by wine growing.

Cost per person: 33.60 SFr. (with Half-Fare Card); 67.00 SFr.

  3. Montreux – Rochers-de-Naye
Bern – Zweisimmen – Gstaad – Montreux – Rochers-de Naye – Montreux – walk to Chillon Castle - Lausanne (by ship) – Bern

Seated comfortably in one of the legendary “GoldenPass Panoramic” trains from Zweisimmen to Montreux, discover the magnificent scenery between the Bernese Oberland and the Lake Geneva (Lac Léman).

A breathtaking panorama awaits you at Rochers-de-Naye, with a superb, majestic view of Alpine splendour and Lake Geneva and also a panoramic restaurant with an uninterrupted, superb view.

Nestling between lake and mountains the promenade at Montreux enjoys a microclimate of rare gentleness. The exotic botanic paradise truly merits its name of “flowered path”.

Chillon castle is one of Switzerland’s most beautiful sites. Built on a rock on the shores of Lake Geneva, Chillon is an exceptional combination of castle and fortress.

Cost per person: 44.60 SFr. (with Half-Fare Card); 89.00 SFr.

  4. Luzern – Swiss Museum of Transport
Bern – Interlaken – Brienz (by ship) – Brünig – Luzern – Langnau – Bern

Swiss Museum of Transport: Experience in interesting and diverse ways the development of transport and mobility by road, rail and water as well as in the air and outer space – yesterday, today and in the future. Furthermore one finds in this building:

IMAX (Large-format cinema): Escape to a different world for 40 minutes, observe the very small from close up, experience the very large in its full size and enjoy a new film dimension – that’s IMAX.

Planetarium: Travel with us through the realm of the stars. No matter what the outside weather, with state-of-the-art technology we will conjure up an impressive starry sky on the dome of our planetarium. Experience an unforgettable space walk from the comfort of your armchair.

Hans Erni Museum: The museum dedicated to Switzerland’s most popular artist (born 1909) is situated in the grounds of the Swiss Museum of Transport. Art and mobility make for an unusual combination, but the link is clear: they both involve communication and encounters.

Cost per person: 39.20 SFr. (with Half-Fare Card); 78.40 SFr.

  5. Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe

In clear weather you can see beyond Switzerland’s borders from the Sphinx viewing terrace.
